My Thoughts

Fairyloot has been teasing an edition of Vespertine for a little while, but it was unclear if they’d include it in a monthly box for November, or if it would be a special set. Well, now we know, and it’s glorious.

I’ve always been a fan of gorgeous vintage-esque books with elegant foils and pretty spines. The designer that Fairyloot chose for this cover, Micaela Alcaino, is amazing at covers like those. (For reference, she did the covers for The Betrayals and The Binding by Bridget Collins, as well as several other gorgeous editions.) The moment that I saw the design for this edition, I was sold.

I instantly fell in love with the design. As much as I like Charlie Bowater’s art for Margaret’s books, this design is just so much more me. Whether I display it with the spine, cover, or even the shimmery sprayed edges facing out, there will be something to admire. I love that the spine looks like an expensive vintage book, and I’m so glad to hear that they’ll be redesigned and releasing matching editions of Margaret’s other books (Sorcery of Thorns and and An Enchantment of Ravens, and the upcoming Vespertine sequel.) I do wish that they would also include the original dust jacket just so that it could have the choice to have the book match the standard/FL exclusive editions that many of us already have, but I could get a copy of the standard edition or one of the other upcoming special editions if I really want to.

In the end, this is a definite yes for me! I would definitely regret not getting this set. I loved An Enchantment of Ravens and I just got approved for the ARC of Vespertine, so I’ll read it first, but considering that I love Margaret’s writing and want the full matching set, this is almost certainly a yes!

Pros

  • Highly anticipated book
  • Ships from both UK and US Fairy Trove Shops, which is great for shipping.
  • Beautifully designed by one of my favorite cover designers!

Cons

  • Some people might not like the design (it’s somewhat similar/on brand for the designer, but I love it!)
  • Doesn’t come with dust jacket (I wish that they’d still include the original dust jacket, or a printed edition of the redesigned case design art, sort of like what you see on some hardcover children’s books.)

Thanks for reading my ramble! Let me know in the comments what you think of the book, theme, and items! Would you get this box?
