Hello everyone! Welcome to my leg of the Wicked as You Wish blog tour! I’m actually a huge fan of Rin Chupeco’s work (I got the Bone Witch trilogy directly from Sourcebooks’ warehouse last summer during my internship!) so I was so excited to be included on this tour! This book is definitely a departure from her horror/dark fantasy novels, but I was honestly quite excited for it! I love seeing authors who are multifaceted in their talents.

About the Author
Despite an unsettling resemblance to Japanese revenants, Rin always maintains her sense of hummus. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she keeps four pets: a dog, two birds, and a husband. Dances like the neighbors are watching.
She is represented by Rebecca Podos of the Helen Rees Agency. She is also fond of speaking in the third person, and may as well finish this short bio in this manner. While she does not always get to check her Goodreads page, she does answer questions posed to her here as promptly as she is able to.

So, it wouldn’t be a Starlight Reads book review without a tiny book cover review! I’ll include another image of the cover down here so that you can reference it.

I actually first saw this cover during my internship at Sourcebooks, with the art director for YA books showed me this book as an example of typography focused covers! Well, that’s pretty obvious, right? The only thing on this cover is text, and the little shape for the series tag. The magic is within the letterforms, where we get these gorgeous designs of animals, clouds, deserts, symbolic items, and more. It’s honestly such a simplistic but beautiful cover. Is it one of my all time favorites? No, but I still like it, and I appreciate the hard work that the designer and art director must have put into it.
Now, onto the review!
It honestly took me a few tries to get into Wicked as You Wish. As I stated earlier in the intro, I’m a big fan of Rin’s works. The Bone Witch was my introduction to her beautiful writing, which I further saw in the rest of the trilogy and in books like The Never Tilting World, The Girl From the Well, and The Suffering.
