Book Cover Review: Tarnished Are The Stars by Rosiee Thor

Hello everyone! This quite a bit late, but I wanted to share a spotlight post for Tarnished are the Stars by Rosiee Thor, with a review to be posted in the coming days!

Thank you to Rosie Thorr, The Fantastic Flying Book Club, and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book and the preorder gifts!

About the Book

The Lunar Chronicles meets Rook in this queer #OwnVoices science-fantasy novel, perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer and Sharon Cameron.

A secret beats inside Anna Thatcher’s chest: an illegal clockwork heart. Anna works cog by cog — donning the moniker Technician — to supply black market medical technology to the sick and injured, against the Commissioner’s tyrannical laws.

Nathaniel Fremont, the Commissioner’s son, has never had to fear the law. Determined to earn his father’s respect, Nathaniel sets out to capture the Technician. But the more he learns about the outlaw, the more he questions whether his father’s elusive affection is worth chasing at all.

Their game of cat and mouse takes an abrupt turn when Eliza, a skilled assassin and spy, arrives. Her mission is to learn the Commissioner’s secrets at any cost — even if it means betraying her own heart.

When these uneasy allies discover the most dangerous secret of all, they must work together despite their differences and put an end to a deadly epidemic — before the Commissioner ends them first.

About the Author

Rosiee Thor began her career as a storyteller by demanding that her mother listen as Rosiee told bedtime stories instead of the other way around. She lives in Oregon with a dog, two cats, and four complete sets of Harry Potter, which she loves so much, she once moved her mattress into the closet and slept there until she came out as queer.

Book Cover Review

Omg, what can I saw about this cover? Before I begin, I would probably preface this with the fact that I love space/stars/galaxy themed book covers, so I’m already biased toward loving this book cover! I’ll put another image of the cover down here for reference.

I am so in awe of the detail that went into making this cover! I love typography heavy covers, but the typography on this cover is so detailed. We have gold and silver metallic elements put together to form the letters, which fits with the theme of the book. On the physical book, they’re actually shiny and metalic, with almost a tarnished patina effect on some letters. There are texture and little screw details as well. I also really love how the text is at a slight angle for a more dynamic effect.

Obviously, given how much of a space nerd I am, I love the background! It’s so ethereal and the color scheme of blues and purples is stunning. The constellations are brighter on the physical book and look stunning, and from the right angle, the book looks like its practically glowing! The clockwork elements in the background fit the book due to Anna’s mechnical clockwork heart. The design continues around to the spine, and the back of the book has a similar blue and purple galaxy effect. I don’t have a photo of it, but the barcode box on the back of the book looks like it was nailed down to the back of the book! So unique!

I absolutely love this cover, and I think it’s perfectly enticing and will attract lots of readers! I’d give it 5/5 shining stars!

Thank you for reading! More content coming soon!
