Croquette and Empanada is a graphic novel about two people in a relationship. They’re represented as an Empanada and Croquette who completely fit in a world of humans, with a few other food characters sprinkled in. It’s broken down into a bunch of short comics that explore everything from the hardships of sharing a bed (stolen covers, pushing the other person off the bed, etc.) to going on a trip abroad. As with most graphic novels of this style, it’s a very fast read, easily sped through in around an hour or less.

I found the story to be very adorable, and I think that people in a relationship would really enjoy reading this together, as many parts are very relatable. I just got out of a year-long relationship, and while reading I frequently wanted to show relatable parts of it to him. 😦 Nevertheless, I kept finding myself with a smile on my face, because I could relate so much with the cute, whimsical Empanada.

The art style is very easy to look at with calm, muted colors and simple scenes that aren’t cluttered. The characters are very cute and you can read the emotion on their faces in every panel, which adds to the story. Their expressions are almost comical at times.

All in all, I enjoyed reading Croquette and Empanada. I’ll give it 4/5 stars because while I found it to be very amusing and adorable, I’m not sure if it will stick with me. The majority of the comics reminded me of the type of content you quickly read on a social media site, share with a friend, and then move on with your day. That’s how reading this felt. I felt warm and fuzzy while reading it, but I’m not sure how much I’ll remember in a day or so.
